Rules, Regulations, Organization, and all that Jazz

It is our belief that one of the great results of our coming together at the State Convention is the ability to both meet and strengthen friendships with and learn from our Brother Squires from all over the great state of Texas.  To foster that belief and to provide for a means towards fair competition, teams for the Squires Olympics will be formed randomly from meeting participants within the following two age groups: 10 - 13 and 14 - 18.

In each age group, we will create teams and then give each team their own individual team name.  The number of Squires per team, the number of events utilized, and the number of participants in each event will vary depending on the number of Squires in attendance.

The following outline and rules are based upon the assumption that we will create teams of 7 Squires each - however, the outline and rules are subject to change based upon attendance.

Events:

1.   Dizzy Bat Relay - Each team will provide 5 members to participate.  Each participant will run down the field to the bat, where they will place one end of the bat on the ground and the other on their forehead.  They will then proceed to spin around the bat 5 times, keeping the bat in contact with their forehead and the ground.  After completing the required number of rotations, they will run back to the start/finish line, where the next team member will then start until all 5 team members have completed the race.  Results of this event will be based upon the time it takes each team to complete the race.

2.   Frisbee Target Toss - Several targets of various value will be set up and each team member will be given three (3) Frisbee's to throw at the selected targets.  Results of this event will be based upon the total team score achieved - via adding together the scores of each individual toss of each team member.

3.   Rock Band Competition - Each team will provide a minimum of 4 members to compete.  Each team will be given the opportunity to select two songs from a pre-determined list which will then be performed.  Each song can be performed by 4 members of the team, and the two songs do not have to be performed by the same 4 members.  Results will be based upon the total score for the two songs.

4.   Air Soft Target Shoot - Similar to the Frisbee Target Toss, each team member will be given 5 shots using an Air Soft Rifle at targets of varying value.  Results of this event will be based upon the total team score achieved - via adding together the scores of each individual shot of each team member.

5.   Sudoku Challenge - Each team member will be given the same set of Sudoku puzzles ranging from easy to difficult to complete.  Team members can choose which puzzles each member will work, and each team member will be timed on how long it takes them to complete their puzzle.  Results will be based upon total team time required to complete the puzzles.

6.   Hula Hoop Pass Along - Each team will form a circle by holding hands.  The team will then have to pass a Hula-Hoop around the circle without letting go of each other's hands.  Hands will be clasped via interlocking the fingers.  Results will be based upon the time it takes to pass the hoop around the circle.  Teams that break their hand hold or unlock their fingers will be assessed a time penalty.

7.   Putt-Putt Challenge - This game is still under design, however, it will be either a three hole challenge or a putting target game.  In the three hole challenge version the total number of strokes of all members of the team will be counted.  In the putting target version, there will be several different target holes, each with its own value similar to the Air-Soft and Frisbee Target Games.  Results will be based upon total team score.

8.   Human Foosball - The details and set-up of this event will be provided at the time of competition.

9.   Surprise Event - This event will require two team members to participate and the details and rules will be provided at the time of competition.

There will be a team winner in each age group for each event, with certificate and/or prize for each member of the team.

The overall Olympic Team Winner in each age group will be the team with the highest score based upon the individual events.  Each team will score 10 points for a First Place Finish, 5 points for a Second Place Finish, and 3 Points for a Third Place Finish.  In the event of a tie in the scoring system, the winner will be determined via the actual number of First, Second, and then Third Place Finishes.
