THE INTERIM KNIGHT/FEBRUARY 1972 Here is a letter received from his family. It speaks much better than anything I could say: To our wonderful knights: "You were so kind to share with us our great loss.
Charlie thought so much of each and every knight. You all were his whole love. His companionship with you was his great joy and pastime. About the only place he ever went, was to the hall, to spend a few hours with his
devoted brothers—and for this devotion and love for him, I thank you. Especially do I thank the beautiful Honor Guard, a group of great men, who represented love and strength—a compliment to us all—and to the loyal and faithful men who
so kindly carried his beautiful body to his final place of rest. Yes, we will all miss Charlie, but what a great blessing knowing that you all had such a close regard for him. May God bless you all and love you, for we
do."
Signed Margaret and Our Children. Our charter will be draped for 30 days in tribute to Brother Gallagher. Our fraternal sympathy enshrouds his memory and our fervent prayers bespeak for him eternal happiness.
THE INTERIM KNIGHT/MARCH 1972 By the time you get this bulletin, our Night of Recollection will be history. This will be a first in our council. We
pause here to thank father Joe Carlin, S.J. and Tom Farrell both. This was held Thursday evening, March 9th. THE INTERIM KNIGHT/MAY 1972 James Ashe, Grand Knight To be singled out at the State Banquet, in the presence of hundreds of fellow knights and their ladies, as the outstanding council in the Texas jurisdiction was something. I received the award in
the name of my council realizing how very small my own part was in attaining it. The plaque is inscribed as follows: "MERITORIOUS AND DISTINCTIVE SERVICE 1971-72 COUNCIL NO. 759 FORT WORTH". FIRST PLACE. We were
declared number one again when awards were given for the best council bulletin. This award was inscribed as follows: "TEXAS OUTSTANDING NEWS MEDIA 1971-72 COUNCIL No. 759. FORT WORTH".
There are 206 councils in the state, so being number one is quite an accomplishment. SCOUTING NEWS THE INTERIM KNIGHT/JUNE 1972 THE INTERIM KNIGHT/JULY 1972 THE INTERIM KNIGHT/AUGUST 1972
I am going to let you all in on a little secret on how he got the title "Papa". We all call him "papa", even the older folks. The children at St. Teresa home gave it to him. The old orphanage didn't have some of the
conveniences—like window coolers, etc. Some how Jim arranged, begged and borrowed coolers for the children's dormitory. The children always ended their evening prayers like this, "AND GOD BLESS MAMA AND PAPA ROACH". And
that's how it started. About 40 of Papa Roach's friends surprised him with a birthday party at the council hall Saturday, August 12. Along with all the "Happy birthday" signs, the songs, they had a beautiful cake baked for the
occasion. Only trouble that developed—the committee couldn't find enough candles to light up. THE INTERIM KNIGHT/SEPTEMBER 1972

WE ARE NO. 1 IN TEXAS
COUNCIL 759 IS NUMBER ONE:
Eleven members of Explorer Post No. 32, 4 girls and 7 boys, repaired and painted the rear wall and the garbage rack on May 3rd
. Thanks to them and also Brother Joe Cosgrove for taking on this project. Also, many of our boys from Troop 32, as well as a great number of leaders attended the annual B.S.A. retreat. Hope to have an article on this for the
June bulletin.
NOTE BURNING AFFAIR HUGE SUCCESS
June 15, 1972 will certainly go down in history as a red-letter day in the annals of council 759. It was then that we all saw Papa Roach light
the flame that burned the note. A happy day indeed. What nostalgia there was, and what memories and thanksgiving filled our hearts as the flame died out in the beautiful censor, borrowed from Msgr. McCoey, pastor of St Patrick
church for the occasion. Bishop John J. Cassata, first Bishop of the Fort Worth Diocese led the parade of 200 clergy and guests who came to help us celebrate. We were honored to have the following members of the local clergy with
us: Msgr. E.G. Langenhorst, Msgr. W.J. McCoey, Rev. Thomas J. Taeffe installation of the council and initiatory services. , Rev. James A. Boyle, Rev. Albert Tyl, Rev. John Walbe, OSB, and Dennis Smith, seminarian from Holy Trinity
Seminary. The Hon. William D. Cox, Jr., attorney, of Dallas, Texas was here representing the Texas State Council, Mike Smerick was master of ceremonies. The jubilant meeting began with prayer by Rev. John Walbe, council
chaplain. Then the pledge of allegiance to our flag, led by four members of Troop 32, B.S.A. The Grand Knight then passed out special awards to all 10 of the living Past Grand Knights, and two special awards for outstanding service
to Howard Pierson and to Leo Nezworski. At this time Father Walbe, council chaplain was presented a suitcase as a gift from Council 759, and the bishop also received a gift from his fellow knights. Following this, 21 plaques were
awarded all members of the games committee. Words of praise were bestowed on these men for the great work they have done and are still doing. While we were honoring these, we were also thinking back to some others not with us,
names like Jake Bartula, Jake Huber, John Schriever, Max O'Neal, O'Gara, Kreyenbuhl, Gleeson Leonard, Finn, Douglas, Amos Clanan, Fesperman, Henke, Steiner, and the list goes on and on. At this point we listened to messages from Bill Cox
and then Bishop Cassata. The last award, the Knight of the Year Award, was given to that fine, outstanding gentleman, Al E. Maday. And the final prayer was said by Msgr. E. Langenhorst, past state chaplain. The celebration
continued far into the night. What a climax to come to a council like 759, one of the older councils in Texas. Surely one that has had its ups and downs. Good times and bad. We look forward with great expectation
to the future. We accept the challenge. Full speed ahead.

"A PROUD MOMENT"
James F. "Papa" Roach, Sr. with eyes focused downward on the
burning mortgage note. We can only guess what thoughts must have been going through his mind at the time. The word triumph must have flashed before him. Hard times and failure are just not in his vocabulary. He
determined years ago that some way, some how that council 759 would be free of debt. We can all now join "Papa Roach" and say, Thank God—"Free at Last—Free at Last." Picture also shows Msgr. E.G. Langenhorst and others looking on.
